Why self-awareness is vital to helping you achieve a good self-esteem

In my previous article, I explained how self-esteem works, specified that self-esteem does not depend on your DNA, and thus can be changed whenever you wish if you can learn to change the way you think, your feelings, and your actions. Therefore, if you seek to improve your self-esteem, you should not ignore the strategies on how to achieve it. Lastly, do not forget that you possess all the abilities to transform your life, as your mind is the best instrument you have to live a healthy, happy, and wealthy life (when the mind is happy and healthy, wealth comes easily).

Though there are many ways to improve self-esteem, based on my experience, the first step to attaining a good self-esteem is by developing self-awareness. When you take the time to look within you, to understand who you are, what you really want in life, and where your life is leading you, then you will realize that you have taken one of the most important steps to attaining a good self-esteem or personal growth. The natural process of growing as a person is learning more about yourself day after day, and this is why self-awareness is so important. When you make any possible effort to work out few minutes a day asking yourself how you feel, if you like your current job, if you are living a happy relationship, what your dreams and your goals are, then you are on the highway to self-esteem.

Self-awareness is knowing who you really are, understanding the connection between you and the world surrounding you, and listening to your needs and dreams. When you dedicate part of your time to your wellness through self-awareness, you have in your hands the key to opening the door of a wonderful life. Yes, it is true because when you develop a certain level of self-awareness, you begin to have a better understanding of yourself, and what you really want in life. This clarity allows you to have a more precise picture of you and your goals. Imagine what will happen if one day you wake up with a clear idea of the job you like to do because you have just realized that you are still doing a job you do not like? Don’t you think that doing a job where you can show your abilities and creativity will boost your self-esteem? Also, don’t you think that from that moment onward you will want to take all the right actions to becoming an expert in that field? Thus, self-awareness gives you the chance to a better understanding of yourself and other people dramatically.

Self-awareness also helps you identify the areas of your life that work best for you, and the areas that don’t. For example, one day you may realize that you like writing, speaking, actor/actress, or doing certain sport, etc. The whole purpose of self-awareness is self-improvement, so it’s a good idea to set yourself some goals. Think of this as a policy of your own. Write down your goals in life, however big or small they may be. You could even split them into categories such as personal life, career etc. Keep track of your progress even of your setbacks, and how you deal with them. This is an amazing way to keep yourself in check, and you can even use this diary to give yourself a personal review, allowing you to re-evaluate yourself, your actions and your goals over time.

Self-awareness drives you to achieve a good self-esteem by freeing you from discouragement and giving you the energy and drive to grow and use more of your potential. You must accept yourself as you are now before you have any desire to grow. If you want to change your life in any way you need to know yourself before you can act. You need to know what you need to do to head in the right direction and you can’t do that until you know yourself. Know your inner potentials, understand your needs, and take every action to allow your dreams become true through self-awareness. This is your opportunity to become the leader of your life. Although, self-awareness is a vital strategy to attaining a good self-esteem, there are also other factors that self-esteem depends on, especially getting rid of old and negative beliefs and thoughts.
